First Look: Mazaj Mediterranean at City Foundry STL in Midtown

The City Foundry STL food hall at 3730 Foundry Way in Midtown will soon be home to some true Palestinian and Mediterranean fare when Mazaj Mediterranean debuts there on Saturday, Dec. 9. The eatery will be the 18th kitchen to open up in the food hall.

Mazaj is the second culinary outing from the nephew and uncle team of Amjed Abdeljabbar and Mahmoud Abed Abualizz, who opened Golden Chicken in St. Peters in 2020. The name Mazaj loosely translates to “vibes” and refers to the overall feel of the Food Hall, according to Abdeljabbar. “We’re a family business, we’re built off family, and this is a family-friendly place,” he said, adding that the Food Hall is a bustling, active space with tons of energy, and presents a great opportunity to bring Middle Eastern and Mediterranean food to a new audience. “The Foundry keeps growing and we want to grow with them,” he said.

Many of Golden Chicken’s staple dishes will also make appearances on the menu at Mazaj, including gyros, kebabs and falafel, and meat will be sliced from a vertical spit in front of guests for a truly authentic experience. Other favorites include some serious loaded fries, topped with chicken shawarma, melted cheese, jalapeños and garlic sauce, and a variety of chicken wings. There will also be a selection of sweets like the walnut baklva, and beverages, including the house-made Lemon Mint, a tasty and slushy combo of lemon and fresh mint, lightly sweetened and then blended with ice.

Mazaj will be open Monday through Thursday from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m., Friday and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m., and Sunday from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.
